This book provides a very realistic expression of lesbian relations (minus the abusive one). Although I have seen abuse in relationships, this example is quite extreme. And yet, the premise is excellent and the characters very true to character. I was unable to put book down and stayed up late into night to complete. I also was not able to get some of the imagery and feelings out of my mind for days, such was the impact it had on me! I definitely recommend this story of hope, love, and rebirth from the ashes of the tragedy of domestic violence!Product details

Claire A Beautiful and Tragic Lesbian Romance edition by HL McCall Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Very grapic. A good read if you can get through the heartbreak and violence. Unexpected ending. To the author please write a sequel. Let us know what happens to Clairemont now.
It is rare for me not to finish a book. I hit 57% in this one and decided to stop the struggle. I poked around in a couple more spots in the second half and decided it's just not redeemable.
Specific issues with this tale
1. The story starts with a compressed tale of a woman settling down in a strange town, bumping into someone at the garden center and finding her one true love. So far, pretty formulaic. Then her one true love's ex comes back into the picture dying of cancer and she skedaddles. This alone would be a full lesbian drama by itself. However, this is just the setup....
2. In her travels, she visits a lesbian bar. It's clear the author has never been in a lesbian bar. She describes events that would NEVER occur in a room full of women. A petite wounded woman is mauled by her date, hands under clothes, people 'pay no attention' ?!? The abuse continues on the dance floor and not one single dyke speaks up about it? Yeah, you know who thinks that's what happens in lesbian bars? Republicans.
3. The petite wounded woman shows up at the motorhome of the skedaddling woman truly wounded. Bleeding human bite wounds. They decide to treat these wounds themselves rather than seeking proper medical attention.
4. Now it gets freakier. Like 'we all know lesbians are perverts' freaky. While cleaning human bite wounds on her 'vagina', the protagonist becomes aroused. Right.
5. Within just a couple of weeks of the arrival of the brutalized woman in her motorhome, the protagonist and the victim start a sexual relationship. The protagonist is supposedly a retired therapist. In what therapeutic model is that behavior ok?
5. Anatomical descriptions are just wrong. Every reference to female genitals is 'vagina'. There are a LOT more parts there than just a vagina. You know who knows that? Lesbians. You know who doesn't? 12 year old boys. Republicans. And apparently this author.
This author purports to be a retired therapist. With this in mind, the supposed background of the author, this is a horrible horrible book. The only redemption is that it is properly punctuated.
One of the best stories I ever read. Uplifting with so much positive parts that I have to admit writer is really brilliant!!!
A book to have, little sad in the end but there are always bright sides of every story no matter how sad the story is. I really loved it.
Bravo!!!!!
I had read the two great reviews and the one bad one. The bad one made me hesitate but decided to give this book a try. I'm so very glad I did take the chance. Sure, it's not perfect in grammar and the endearment "Honey" was a bit overused but the characters and story were wonderful. It kept me up until 3AM and that doesn't happen with many books. Try it, I think you will like it.
"Claire" is beautiful, tender, emotional, and gut wrenching at times. Kate was the most amazing character I have come across in all of the books I have read, simply awesome.
I consider myself very fortunate that I have never personally experienced any emotional or physical abuse as so many women do; my partner of over 18 years was not so lucky, but the human heart & psyche are truly capable of overcoming so much.
I was reading "Claire" on and off, Friday afternoon, and then I spent the evening reading until I was too tired and had to put it down. It happened to be at some point before Sarah's wedding, and I am so glad I stopped there! Around 5 am Saturday morning, my internal clock woke me up, so I went off and finished it. I was so moved by the events in the remainder of the book that I had a hard time reading it through my tears. When I finished, I turned the light off and wept.
A very weird story , not sure what to really thinnk..Unbelievable at parts, the ending was the best part ,
This novel was purchased based on two factors excellent reviews and a debut author. If this had been written as a thriller, perhaps the extreme graphic violence may have been warranted because the reader would know what to expect (such as The Ripper's Daughter by Anders and Phair) but since it was described as a romance, the reader cannot even suspect the shocking content. Please be aware that this novel graphically describes unspeakable acts of violence including incest, pedophilia, rape, breast and vaginal mutilation, and most disturbing, the torture and murder of kittens.
This book provides a very realistic expression of lesbian relations (minus the abusive one). Although I have seen abuse in relationships, this example is quite extreme. And yet, the premise is excellent and the characters very true to character. I was unable to put book down and stayed up late into night to complete.
